A Tourist's Guide to Beautiful Horses, Local Foods, and Expert Betting
Featuring information on all 10 JRA racecourses across Japan!
Forget dark, dusty venues. JRA racecourses are massive, clean parks with beautiful green grass, majestic horses running at 60 km/h, and family-friendly park environments. It's a gorgeous photo spot.
From legendary "Horumon Rice" stew in Sapporo, crispy bone-in "Tori-sen" fried chicken in Tokyo, to massive giant fried shrimp in Chukyo—Japanese racecourses are food sanctuaries. Every venue features unique regional B-grade gourmets and local sweets that offer an unforgettable culinary journey!
First, visit the JRA English website to see which racecourses are hosting events during your trip. JRA races are held every Saturday and Sunday across 2 or 3 locations. While local racing exists, JRA is by far the best experience for international tourists.
Always check if a high-stakes "G1" race is taking place. G1 days are incredibly packed and require advance online reservations. However, on any non-G1 day (or at alternative racecourses), you can simply purchase a general admission ticket for around 200 JPY ($1.50) directly at the gate windows.

Keiba Eight lists exactly three horses marked with a ★. Statistically, at least one of these three finishes in the top 3 with very high probability. Highly recommended for beginners!
Look at the small numbers like 3-3-2-2. This represents the horse's position at each corner. Front-running horses (smaller numbers) are generally safer bets on Japanese tracks.
Numbers like ①, ②, ③ in a black circle show the fastest final stretch sprint times. A horse with a front-running position (e.g., 3-3-2-2) AND a ① is a "最強馬" (Strongest Champion Horse).
